The clients, a retired professional couple, wanted to be able to swim year-round in their new and final home. The house is designed on three levels, surrounding a 19-metre lap pool. Overlooking the pool deck are the office, gym, and guest room, while below the pool deck are the living and entertaining areas, and main bedroom suite. The family and living areas open onto a north side deck and the garden beyond.
The house, with double-glazed windows by Miglas, state-of-the-art air-filtering and ventilation, and in-slab hydronic heating, has a fully controllable and very stable inside climate.
The pool deck is ventilated and de-humidified separately, and the pool heated by an integrated solar-mat and heat-pump driven system.
The pool was built first, and the four levels of waffle pod slab, with hydronic heating installed, were then poured around it. The frame is double insulated, using under-ceiling spray foam, 15mm foil-board, and Earthwool batts. Exterior cladding is brick veneer using Daniel Robertson bricks, and roof is corrugated Colourbond steel.
A clean and simple interior was created using porcelain tile flooring, white custom designed and built joinery, and Victorian Ash timber trim.
